Final Collection of the Actor Discoveries
MichaelPlaying Hamlet has been very interesting and scary. It’s interesting in the way that I’ve always read this play and thought about it from the outside perspective of the reader. But, now I have to look at Hamlet from the perspective of an actor. I have to put my own opinions and feelings into the character where, before, I could just have my opinions and others could have their opinions and both could be right. However, now I am the one who is responsible for what the viewer sees and feels. That is a serious responsibility whether it is only for a class or not. I just hope I do the part justice by showing the complexity and intensity that makes Hamlet so fascinating. I try to show Hamlet's grief, despair, and desire to get revenge that exists in the original play to maintain the original integrity.

WillWhen I found out I was cast for the role of Horatio, I was tremendously thrilled. Horatio plays an essential role in Hamlet, and I would argue he's almost as important as the title character himself. He plays the role of the observer for most of the play, siding with Hamlet but for the most part merely baring witness to the madness and carnage of the play, rather than taking part. Though I had little time with the material, I attempted to display my interpretation of the character in my performance. I imagined Horatio as an ambassadorial character between the world of the play and the audience, often playing the part of the audience and acting accordingly. I tried to make Horatio a blank-ish slate: just slightly charismatic enough that the audience could relate to him or find him likable, while still remaining neutral enough that the audience could imprint themselves into his position. I hope this shows in my performance.
